This is some blog description about this site
The free George Brown College (GBC) course called “Speaking with Confidence” at Wellesley Community Center has officially started on May 28 and will continue every Wednesday until August 27.
St. James Town Community Café, in collaboration with GBC, LIFT, and Wellesley Community Centre, worked together to bring the program to the community, where attendees of the course are automatically recognized as GBC students, complete with free use of some of the college facilities during the course period.
The program commenced with a course orientation led by Ms. Elizabeth Dantas, Educational Partnerships Manager at the Community Partnerships Office of George Brown College; followed by a discussion on the course outline and description, conducted by Ms. Rusa Jeremic, Professor and Community Worker Program at the School of Social and Community Services of George Brown College.
According to the syllabus, upon completion of the course, “the students will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
1. Prepare for different purposes, including speeches that entertain, inform, and persuade, by incorporating a variety of techniques including rhetorical strategies
2. Deliver informative and persuasive speeches that incorporate an analysis of historical and contemporary perspectives of important social issues
3. Choose appropriate verbal and non-verbal messages to suit particular audiences
4. Give constructive feedback on their own and others’ speaking skills by assessing preparation, research, arrangement, critical thinking, and delivery.”
